Celebrate MLK Day in North Adams

January 19, 2009
Cultural Events

On Monday, January 19, 2009 the North Adams MLK Day Committee will be holding its 15th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration. This year's event will be held at the Church Street Center on the MCLA campus. This is Northern Berkshire's way to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King and to explore peace in our community.

The festivities start at 10:00 a.m. with coffee and pastries, and transition to a brief service followed by keynote and dignitary speeches. This is a community celebration that highlights the diversity of our cities and towns. The day will also include the presentation of the Peacemaker award to Williamstown residents Donna Denelli-Hess and Deborah Foss, who have volunteered at the Nyumbani orphanage in Kenya working with HIV infected children. Donna recently adopted and has brought to Williamstown one of the children, named Benjamin. Musical and theatrical performances by local groups will entertain everyone, and the day will conclude with a free luncheon and plenty of good conversation. Everyone is welcome and we hope to see you there.
