Board of License Commissioners

The Board of License Commissioners (the Licensing Board) consists of three members appointed by the mayor and subject to confirmation by the City Council. Members of the Board of License Commissioners serve six-year terms and require reappointment by the Mayor and confirmation by the City Council. Vacancies occurring on the Board may be filled in the same manner, but only for the balance of an unexpired term.

The Board of License Commissioners is responsible for granting licenses relating to alcoholic beverages under General Laws chapter 138 and those licenses under General Laws chapter 140 which are not placed within the jurisdiction of another municipal officer or agency, including those designated by City ordinances. No person while a member of the board of license commissioners shall have any financial interest, direct or indirect, in the sale or distribution of alcoholic beverages in any form.
