Property Tax Classification Public Hearing 11/28/2023 7:00 PM


Pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 30A, Section 20, an Act making certain changes in the procedure of Classification of land for taxation, the North Adams City Council will conduct a public hearing on the matter of property tax classification on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 7:00 pm in City Council Chambers, First Floor, City Hall, 10 Main Street, North Adams, Massachusetts.

After hearing the recommendations of the Board of Assessors and the Mayor, the Council shall determine the percentages of local tax levy to be borne by each class of real property for the next fiscal year. The City Council must first determine a residential factor; said factor to be an amount not less than the minimum residential factor determined by the Commissioner of Revenue of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

At this hearing, the Board of Assessors shall provide all information and data relevant to making such a determination of the amount of tax levy to be borne by each class of real property. The Board of Assessors will provide information relevant to the fiscal effects of all available alternatives in this regard.

Citizens of the City of North Adams may present, during this hearing their views concerning the issue of property tax classification. Written information may also be submitted to the Office of the City Clerk, City Hall, and North Adams, Massachusetts prior to the date of the public hearing.
