Zoning Board of Appeals

The North Adams Zoning Board of Appeals consists of five members appointed by the mayor, and two associate members appointed by the Mayor. Members and associate members of the Zoning Board of Appeals serve five-year terms and require reappointment by the Mayor.  Vacancies occurring on the Board may be filled in the same manner, but only for the balance of an unexpired term.

The North Adams Zoning Board of Appeals is responsible for interpreting the North Adams Zoning Ordinance in appeals of denied building permits or other determinations of the Director of Inspection Services, and for hearing petitions for special permits and variances subject to the requirements M.G.L.  c. 40A.  Associate members of the Zoning Board of Appeals serve as members of the Board when regular members of the Board are excused from serving by reason of personal interest, illness, absence or inability to act.
